Fields: Add/Edit Room

Add/Edit Room opens whenever you create a new blank room, edit an existing room, or copy an existing room. It lets you manage the basic properties of the room.

Rooms > Choose a profile > Add Room

Rooms > Choose a profile > Edit Room

These settings apply only to the room in the current profile. If you want to apply these setting to other profiles, use Cascade Room Settings to Profiles (for more information, see Copying room settings to other profiles).

Those fields marked with an asterisk ( * ) are required. If you do not enter information for a field that is required, the software prompts you that the information is missing.

Portfolio adds rooms to the bottom of the Rooms list. If the list of rooms is long, you may need to scroll down to see the new room.

Changes you make to the room tree structure or to room content will not be available to patrons until you run the SD_CONTENT_EXTRACTOR task. For more information, see Scheduled Tasks.

After you make changes to the room settings, refresh the cache to make the modifications available to patrons.

Title

Specifies the name (up to 80 characters) of the room for all profiles. After you enter and save the title, you can change it, but the room name changes in every profile in the system.

This is a required field.

Description

Summarizes briefly the intended purpose of the room (up to 255 characters).

Layout

Specifies the number of columns in the room that contain a content area. The layout is specific to the current profile. In other profiles, the room may have a different layout.

You have these options:

Option Description

Three Columns

Includes all of content areas and the room tree area. The central content area extends over 50% of the page. The right content area extends over the remaining 25% of the page.

Two Columns

Includes only the room tree column, with a content area below it, and the central content area. The central content area extends over the remaining 75% of the page.

One Column

Includes only the central content area. The room tree does not display. The content area extends over 100% of the page.

Note: Because the One Column layout does not include the room tree, selecting this layout for a room prevents patrons from navigating to child rooms unless you provide links to those rooms in the content area.

No Content

Includes no content areas and no room tree. The only option available to patrons is the Search field.

Note: Because the No Content layout does not include the room tree or any content areas, patrons will not be able to navigate to any child rooms of this room.

Middle and Right Columns

Includes the room tree without a content area below it, a middle column over 50% of the page, and column over the remain 25% of the page.

One Column with Taxonomy

Includes the room tree without a content area, with a column that extends over 75% of the page.

Note: When you modify a layout to use fewer content areas, any content entered in those areas is hidden but not deleted. When you change the layout to use that area, the content is again displayed.

When you copy a room, you also copy the layout. Any hidden content is also copied. You can display and edit the content by changing the layout to display all content areas.

Asset Layout

Specifies the location of the asset list when assets are included in the room (for more information, see Adding assets to a room).

Important: If a folder from the asset repository is assigned to the room, it will appear in the room even if a layout is selected that does not include content.

You have these options:

Option Description

Assets on Bottom

Places the asset list below the room content.

Assets on Top

Places the asset list above the room content.

Available

Displays a list of all the bestseller lists and the book lists that have been made available (for more information, see Managing book lists). Choosing a book list makes that list visible in the current room.

You can select or multiselect one or more book lists and then choose the Select button, or you can double-click individual book lists to move them to the Selected box.

Selected

Displays the book lists that will be shown in the current room.

You can select or multiselect one or more book list and then click Remove, or you can double-click individual search targets to move them to the Available box. Select a single book list and use the arrow buttons to move it up or down in the list.

Note: The order in which the book lists appear in the Selected box is the order in which the book lists will appear in the profile's Home page content.

To add, remove, or reorder book lists in the Selected box, choose the book list, and then use these buttons:

Option Description

Select

Moves the selected book list from the Available box to the Selected box.

Remove

Removes the selected book list from the Selected box and returns it to the Available box.

Move Up

Moves the selected book list up one position in the Selected box.

Move Down

Moves the selected book list down one position in the Selected box.

Note: These buttons are context-sensitive based on which book list(s) you choose. For example, if you select a book list from the Available box, the Remove, Move Up, and Move Down options are disabled because those commands are not available. If you select a book list from the Selected box, the Remove, Move Up, and Move Down options are enabled because those commands are available.
